Aster Denisenko

Aster Denisenko is a modern iconographer of Australian, Eastern European background and resides in Naarm country, Reservoir.

Aster’s creative practice of 30 years incorporates her strong drawing foundation, formal classical music studies as well as conceptual work for various fashion brands,  and founding her own contemporary womenswear brand MELEEA.

It’s Aster’s belief that the purpose of art is not merely to create an evocative image, but to harness the power of art to comment on our society and provoke and foster spiritual connection.

Aster’s process begins with mixing colour combinations with what she wears, the same palette used in her work. The energy of the colour is an integral part to capture the tone of the piece, often incorporating metallic and neon pigment to express the duality of the human spirit.

Through masterful use of manipulating colour and medium, her work moves beyond replicating the physical to capturing personality, moving beyond likeness to an ideal, encapsulating the subject.
